How the Wildcats Football Club raised over $35,000…without selling a single coupon book
The Wildcats Football Club is an organization based out of Calgary that runs five different football teams for kids ages 8 to 17.
Like most youth sports programs, the Wildcats are a non profit organization and rely heavily on volunteers and fundraising to keep their doors open. But despite the fact that about 1 in 10 Wildcats players requires fee assistance each season, the team has never turned a player away due to financial hardship. That’s just how committed they are to supporting their players.
Fundraising has always been an important part of what the Wildcats do, as it plays a fundamental role in allowing the team to keep fees reasonable and help out families in need.
Historically, fundraising for the Wildcats was always a paper-based process, meaning the entire process was managed by hand. Not only was this incredibly time-consuming, but this administrative nightmare was actually hurting the organization financially.
“In the past we had worked with paper orders,” says Shana Pelzel, Director of Fundraising & Corporate Sponsors for the Wildcats. “We would take cash and cheques from customers, always coming up short, making mistakes, and lots of times paying more in the end for payments not received.”
Shana was on a desperate hunt for an easier and more effective fundraising system…and that’s what brought the Wildcats to TeamFund!
After joining the TeamFund family, the Wildcats dramatically simplified their administrative process, and quickly saw their profits increase by implementing the following things.

system made things easier for the supporters as well, as all they had to do was click a link and it would take them directly to the Wildcats’ fundraising page, allowing the supporter to see all the product information and make their purchases on their own time. The simplicity for the Wildcats meant far less time was being spent on the fundraising campaign, and the simplicity for the supporters meant more people were contributing to the fundraiser at a faster rate.
Using social media and email to get the word out
Let’s face it, we’re all busy, and more often than not, people do want to help, they just don’t have the time to go out of their way and support your organization. Using social media is an excellent way to reach people where they are and provide an easy way for them to support a cause, and that’s exactly what Wildcats did! The parents and volunteers shared the link to their
fundraising page located on TeamFund’s platform, and were able to reach a lot of people faster.
Using detailed sales reports
In addition to providing a payment system, TeamFund also offers detailed sales reports for all organizations. This function allowed the Wildcats to analyze the numbers, identify which items were most profitable, and better tailor their campaigns based on the provided data. “The ability to pull sales information about what products are selling best is a win-win for us!” Says Shana.
